We start Food for Work project in Batticalo district . At the beginning of this project, my work started with 60 families and 320 persons on 12 acres of land, out of which, I started from my experience of how the land could get nutritious food three times a day of physical labour and as a result,in accordance with the goal of Kaveri Kala Mandram project, the process was to initiated a life and agro-culture of the affected families. In that sense , I have achieved the goal especially 60, excellent agricultural gardens , 4 seed banks, sharing more than 16 agricultural experience, 10 agricultural resource persons, etc. I am proud this rewarding project and achievements.

4 seed banks were established.



In Vavunia Chettikulam region, the country seed bank is being opened and implemented for the first time with the aim of preserving country seeds. This activity can be observed that our members are working very enthusiastically and responsibly. Farme rs are planting the seeds collected in this bank from their lands and depositing the seeds again in the seed bank. Through this, native seeds are protected. It is particularly noteworthy that 35 types of local seeds are stored in this seed bank.

I am Kugathas living in Panduvetai, my father is a great gardener and I always loved to help him out in the garden from my childhood. Home gardening has been a family practice which I have inherited from my ancestors. For last ten years I have leased farming land and successfully producing diversity of seasonal crops. During the heavy rainy season, I work around the home garden. Even though it was a struggle with the present economic crisis in our country which had an impact on agriculture, I tried my best to support my family. During these difficult times FOOD FOR WORK team from KKM visited us, empowered and supported us donating with four months of dry food supply which was a great relief. I joined the community farmers group which was formed by KKM, where I was able to interact with other farmers sharing hope for sustainable agricultural practice. My family is grateful to KKM sustaining our lifesaving care in the face of an emergency.

STORIES….

I am Sivamalar living in Moolai, I have a beautiful garden around my house. We are a happy family working together in our garden which gives us a pleasure and joy. I have varieties of mixed seasonal crops in my garden and spent most of our time in the garden. I have many ways of earning an income from my garden. Selling fresh products to community, selling pot plants, selling preserved seeds, selling medicinal herbs to neighbours and friends, and selling excess of natural compose. As a result of the present crisis in our country, surviving to live a basic life is a challenge to everyone. Without fuel for the irrigation and not enough production for an income, I was stressed out, anxious about my family’s health and wellbeing. The FOOD FOR WORK team from KKM approached us providing basic dry food for immediate relief and ensuring a positive way facing the crisis to move forward for better life. With their support I have become a member of the farmers community which will help me to interact and share farmers thoughts and hope for sustainable agricultural practices.
